In January 2023, I was announced as one of the 17 winners of the Tony Elumelu Storytellers Grant. I was the only Ghanaian on the list and each of us (the winners) would be offered a grant to embark on a projectβthe project we pitched in our applications.
My goal for applying for the fund was simple; I had seen a huge gap between the creative industry and the entrepreneurship sector. As an advocate for the creative economy, I saw this as an opportunity to educate creatives in Ghana and around the world on howβcontrary to what we believeβlucrative being in the creative industry can be.
Emerging as one of the 17 winners gave me the nod I needed. I saw it as an indication that it was timeβtime to educate upcoming creatives on how they can benefit from the creative economy. Hence, I began my research.
After months of research, writing, and interviews with renowned Ghanaian creatives, among other important processes, the project is finally ready and I am excited (more anxious though) for the world to see.
The goal of this project is to offer insights and recommendations on how creatives can become more than just creators but also individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset.
I do believe it harbours some of the keys (if not all) Ghanaian creatives can use to harness the potential of the creative economy and make a sustainable living for themselves.
